What’s in a name?

Camara and Goddard are the last names of two strong women who raised the founder of Camara-Goddard Hotels, Fatou Jabbie. One was her mother, a kind and carefree Gambian widow and mother to seven children; the other a practical and supportive mentor who enabled Fatou’s education, ultimately pushing her to become the first person in her family to graduate high school, college and pursue higher education.

Camara-Goddard Hotels is part of a vision to give back to the African continent and foster sustainable development imperatives from every sector to create organic change and opportunity for Africans. From using the most advanced building certifications, such as LEED and EDGE, to ensure minimal environmental impact, to partnering with local government and organizations to hire and train locally, the vision for what the next level of sustainable hospitality can look like starts with two luxury hotels in the Gambia.

Location & Details

Camara-Goddard Hotel Group’s inaugural hotels in the Gambia will be located on the seaside coast in Kartong, and along the estuary river in Halahin.

Both hotels will be LEED v4.1 Cities and Communities and LEED v4.1 Hospitality Gold-certified, the first in the Gambia. The development projects aim to achieve economic growth, social equity, and environmental conservation in Kartong, through aligning both resorts with the Gambia’s National Development Plan (2018-2021) and the 2030 Sustainable Agenda outlined by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
